Citizen Alert System

Reprinted with permission from an e-newsletter published by Maine Representative James White.

Maine.gov’s Citizen Alert System has been established as a way for Maine State Government to keep the public informed about events that may impact public health or safety.  Information issued through the Maine.gov Citizen Alert System is provided directly from authorized State Government officials.

Some of the types of alerts that might be issued through this system should an urgent event occur are:

  • AMBER/kidnapping alerts;
  • severe storm warnings/bulletins;
  • statewide government office closings;
  • homeland security; and
  • health epidemics or threats to public health.

Effective December 10, 2024, Maine.gov citizen and agency alerts will send texts from a new phone number — 866-614-8358.

Please note that if you subscribe to the text message service, your wireless provider may charge you to receive text messages on your mobile device.  Contact your wireless provider if you have any questions about the fees the company may charge.
