If you own a home, you\u2019ve probably received a solicitation saying, \u201cWe want to buy your house.\u201d The offer may sound appealing, but it\u2019s often not in your best interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These sell\u2011your\u2011home schemes<\/a> often target older homeowners who are likely to have significant home equity. The bad actors search public records for foreclosure filings, divorces, or recent deaths to identify homeowners who may be under financial or emotional stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They frequently rely on high\u2011pressure sales tactics and misleading claims\u2014including misrepresenting the value of your home, exaggerating market conditions to create a false sense of urgency, or even suggesting you may owe back taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even promises to buy homes \u201cas is\u201d can be misleading. In some cases, buyers later back out of that pledge and demand repairs before completing the sale, leaving the seller responsible for costly fixes after all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re thinking about working with a \u201cWe Buy Homes\u201d company, know the true value of your home, understand what you\u2019re signing, and get legal advice before moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
