Spring will be here soon, which means that Grange month in April is on our doorstep. \u00a0Does your Grange have anything planned?\u00a0If so, please let us all know by advertising on the Maine State Grange website. \u00a0Over the years, our Granges have become more individualized and isolated from one another, even within their own Pomona.\u00a0A\u00a0Pomona meeting\u00a0is where the Granges in your area meet once a month to keep contact between Granges strong. However, many of our Granges do not have their Fifth\u00a0Degree and hardly ever see anyone from their\u00a0area or a neighboring Grange. What has happened? Why are many not finishing their degrees? Are we encouraging them?\u00a0What do our new members know about Grange other than what they see\u00a0in\u00a0their own Grange?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to start\u00a0bringing\u00a0back programs that\u00a0bring\u00a0others to our different Granges\u00a0to interact and to have fun.\u00a0Some of the programs we used to be\u00a0the following:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three-point meetings<\/strong>. This is where a Grange invites two other Granges for a night of fun. One\u00a0Grange\u00a0usually\u00a0provides dinner, another, the\u00a0program,\u00a0and the third, the officers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Sash and Pink Sash nights.<\/strong> This is when a Grange invites the members of\u00a0its\u00a0Pomona\u00a0or the State Officers\u00a0to take their offices for the evening\u00a0while the host Grange provides the program.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth Nights.<\/strong> Sadly, with the lack of youth in our Granges today, these nights are almost non-existent.\u00a0To the youth of different Granges, it was their night to shine and provide a program.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ritualistic Night.<\/strong> When I was lecturer at my Grange years ago, this was my favorite program to present, so all members could learn or refresh their knowledge of rituals and traditions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agricultural Nights and Legislative Nights.<\/strong> \u00a0There were also fun nights in which the program was based on Ag or legislative issues. Resolutions were\u00a0conceived,\u00a0and we also learned about\u00a0planting,\u00a0harvesting,\u00a0and filled\u00a0with\u00a0skits,\u00a0or\u00a0having a\u00a0speaker\u00a0as part of the program.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without the\u00a0above\u00a0programs, what do we have now? Do Granges still have programs\u00a0that invite others?\u00a0How are we to take in new members if we have nothing exciting or beneficial for them?\u00a0We need to start\u00a0interacting\u00a0more with one another through our Grange meetings\u00a0(Community,\u00a0Pomona,\u00a0and State)\u00a0to grow and prosper.\u00a0ALL OF US\u00a0are responsible\u00a0for\u00a0keeping\u00a0Grange\u00a0alive,\u00a0so ask this question at your next Grange meeting: What is our vision for the future?\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
