Fire departments are teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association\u00ae<\/sup> (NFPA\u00ae<\/sup>) \u2014 the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week\u2122 (FPW\u2122) for more than 100 years \u2014 to promote this year\u2019s FPW campaign, \u201cCharge into Fire Safety\u2122: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.\u201d It highlights how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle lithium-ion batteries safely.<\/p>\n\n\n

Most of the electronics we use in our homes every day \u2014 smartphones, tablets, power and lawn tools, laptops, e-cigarettes, headphones, and toys, to name just a few \u2014 are powered by lithium-ion batteries. In fact, most everything that\u2019s rechargeable uses this type of battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If not used correctly or if damaged, lithium-ion batteries can overheat, start a fire, or even explode. To reduce these risks, take a look around your home \u2014 it\u2019s essential to identify which devices are powered by them. Lithium-ion batteries are powerful, convenient, and they\u2019re just about everywhere.
