CRAFT CONTESTS – Judged July 24th 9:30 am at the Family Camp Out Weekend
GENERAL RULES Age groups unless otherwise noted; 5-7, 8-10, 11-14, Must be a Junior Granger. A label must be attached on the bottom of the craft that contains the following information, Name, Date of Birth, Grange Name and Number; Prizes 1st $15.00, 2nd $10.00, 3rd $5.00, ALL entries will receive a ribbon

WALNUT SHELL CRAFT Make anything you wish out of “Walnut Shells”. You may use other items to enhance your item, but the walnut shells must stand out as the major item. Use your imagination. Size: No larger than 6” x 6” x 6” including hanger if there is one. Judging will be based on creativity, originality, and use of materials.

BUTTON CRAFT Make anything that you wish out of “Buttons”. You may use other items to enhance your item, but the “buttons” must stand out as the major item. Use your imagination. Size is to be no larger than 12” x
12” x 12” including hanger if there is one.

BIG E CRAFT - PATRIOTIC Make a Patriotic United States symbol. Use your imagination, and any materials that you wish. No larger than 6” x 6” x 6” including hanger if there is one. First places in this Big E craft goes on to the Big E for judging.

COOKING – BROWNIES – Recipe of your choice. Place five brownies on a disposable plate covered with a see through wrap. Judging will be on appearance, flavor, and texture.

NATIONAL GRANGE JUNIOR CONTESTS General Rules: Must be a JR Member; Ages groups 5-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14 (as of January 1, 2010); On the back of the paper write contestant’s name, birth date, address, Grange name, and number; Judging will be based on creativity, originality, and use of the theme; Entries must be judged at the State level, and then will be sent to the National level.

CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST Theme: Write a story about you and your family. Class I: As told to …. 8 and under Class II: Written by … 9-14
Length: One page, computer typed or hand written on 8 ½ by 11 paper.

CREATIVE ART CONTEST Draw a picture of your family. Use 8 ½ by 11 paper. May use crayons, markers, paints, etc

SCRAPBOOK PAGE CRAFT PROJECT Submit one scrapbook page about yourself.

HANDS CRAFT PROJECT Use your handprints and create a craft project.

COLLECTIONS The Junior Department will be collecting the following items during the year: Campbell Soup Labels , Broken Crayons for recycling, Toiletries for Women Veterans, and backpacks for Foster children.

JUNIOR GRANGE CAMP Junior Grange Camp will be held August 8th to the 13th at State Grange Headquarters. Details will be in the Junior Newsletter.

JUNIOR AMBASSADOR CONTEST Junior Ambassador’s will be chosen at Junior Grange camp in August. There will be both a male and female ambassador chosen if there is interest. The age of participants will be 10 to 13 ½, and they must attend camp to be chosen. Criteria is available from the Junior Director.

MAINE STATE JUNIOR GRANGE MEETING This meeting will be held April 11th at Maine State Grange Headquarters. Details will be in the Junior Grange Newsletter

SHARE A TALENT OR A SKILL Purpose: To encourage our Junior Grange Members to share their skills and talents with other Juniors and Grange members. We will showcase our Juniors talents/skills while educating others.
Examples: sharing a collection (stamps, coins, etc.), performing a song, playing the guitar, performing a skit, jazz dance routine. The sky is the limit.
Bring your skill or talent to the Contest Day in April, and then go on to the Regional contest in July and National in November.

PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST Topic of your choice. Speeches will be presented at the Contest Day in April, then at the Regional Youth Conference in July and at National Grange in November. Length: Minimum 1 minute and Maximum 2 minutes. Judging Criteria: 10 Points Time, 10 Points Volume,
10 Points Body Language, 20 Points Eye Contact,
20 Points Content, 20 Points Preparation
100 Points Possible

SIGN-A-SONG CONTEST & SIGN THE ALPHABET CONTEST
Contestants will give their presentation at the Contest Day in April and then at the Regional Youth Conference at the same time the youth and young adult competition is taking place. 8-14 Years of Age Judging Criteria:
30 Points Body expressions, displays emotions; 35 Points Utilization of total communication (Sign Language ability, signs clearly with creative interpretation); 35 PointsPresentation, interpretation with confidence; 100 Points Possible. The 1st place winner will be asked to give their presentation at the National Grange Convention in November during the Saturday Junior Grange Breakfast and will receive $50.00 cash award for their presentation.

VEGETABLE RAISING * GOURDS OPEN TO ALL AGES!
5-7, 8-10, 11-14, 15-21, 22-35, 36 & Up Best arrangement of 3 gourds. These will be judged at the State Grange annual session on Saturday. Judging criteria will be on color, texture, form, and arrangement. Seeds will be available in April from the Junior Director.
