Enterrprise Grange Makeshift Coffee House
American Values, Hometown Roots” What are American values? How would you answer this question?
Enterprise Grange #48 in Richmond, ME will be co-sponsoring, with Richmond Republican Town Committee, a Make Shift Coffee House with Craig Freshley as a facilitator to bring people together to listen and learn a civil way to discuss different viewpoints. Grange is non-sectarian and non-partisan; all parties are invited to participate.
Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, Enterprise Grange Community Room, 15 Alexander Reed Road, Richmond, ME 04357. Live music, free snacks.
From ‘Make Shift Coffee House’ report: “America has been strong because of its unique political system, which works best when people with different views work together. Right now, though, people are so politically divided that we’re not working together. The incivility and contempt people show to “the other side” threaten what we love about America.
Along with political divide, there is an erosion of civility in political conversations leading to gridlock in Augusta and in Washington.
Make Shift Coffee Houses bring people together face-to-face across our political divides, to learn from our differences and listen to each other with civility and respect. When we understand and respect each other, we can find positive solutions, even if we disagree.”
Because Grange has a theme of “American Values, Hometown Roots”, the theme for the evening is “What are American Values?”

No experience needed, no lines to memorize, no rehearsals, no stage directions or costumes. Just sit on the stage, read a part (or two or three, depending) and have fun! Scripts provided.
Wayside’s new play reading group is free and open to all. Please feel free to bring snacks and drinks for our “intermission.” The Theatre hopes this will become a monthly event, with a new play chosen by the group each time.
“Arsenic and Old Lace” is a dark, screwball comedy that takes place in the 1940s in Brooklyn NY. Mortimer Brewster visits his sweet, spinster aunts to introduce his fiancé. Though Mortimer always knew that his family was a bit mad, his world is turned upside down when he realizes that his dear aunts have been poisoning lonely old men for years! And they were planning to bury their newest victim that night! Mortimer must rally to help his aunts and protect his fiancé — all while trying to keep his own sanity as well.
This play explores themes of family loyalty, nature versus nurture, and whether we can ever truly break away from our family’s influence.
